While I was out getting my ass kicked on the water, crowds of people had gathered to see what the fuss was about. The locals are very used to people in kayaks trying their luck on the river but this white guy on some blow-up board with half a paddle was something else. Over the days that followed, the kids would inch closer to the board, even helping me pump it up in the morning and carry it down to the river bank.
