The weekend’s events started with the sound of a conch blowing. Traditionally used to rally fishermen for a big catch, blowing conch was an incredibly appropriate way of sharing smiles with locals and tourists alike. It was an important moment, the smiles shared on the faces, a common enthusiasm shared. As the sun faded into the palms we gathered for a street carnival. An inspiring sight, locals from all over Silver Sands gathered to march in the streets. Visitors from all over the world carried their nation’s flags in one hand and rum drink in the other. Clad in brightly coloured BCWT tee shirts and led by a flat bed truck of sub woofers we followed the blue and yellow Barbados flag through the neighbourhoods. We smiled and waved at children, we laughed arm in arm and shared our enthusiasm for an ocean minded life.
