Bernd, a poet of sorts, put it nicely: “At the end of the day, the mutual appreciation for the ocean and the sea is what draws us all together”. Berndt’s appreciation for the ocean is much more than skin deep. As we talked, he enscribed poetry in acrylic paint on a bright green table, “… the sea is the same as me… this is not what I know, but what I choose to believe, in these small moments when the ocean sets me free, I feel a force of DESTINY.” Youthful but wise, Bernt’ts perspective of the BCWT is the most accurate of them all. He sees the raw and incredible love for a life on the ocean, and with it all the variety of cultures that it supports. He understands the benefit of a healthy relationship with the locals, the ocean and the sport. SUP
