The five come together to compete in a week long event held in an area of cultural significance, structured with the objective of integrating with local culture, supporting local businesses and becoming part of the community in a natural way. This year’s athletes made up the tour’s finest collection of watermen yet.
Much like a heavyweight title, a BCWT event can only take place when the reigning champ returns to the fold. This year’s reigning champ is Airton. Known for incredible strapless acrobatics and aggressive surf skills, Airton is a heavy force to contend with. Catching up between events, Airton discusses the significance of this event. “I love coming down here. It is the perfect place for relaxing and training, it’s all about the fun and the wind”.
