Getting there and around
From the UK, take a ferry to Roscoff then drive one hour to Quimper.
Overseas, fly in to Paris CDG, then take a six hour drive to Quimper.
Trains and local airports are also available though not always practical for sups.
Finding surf
Most of the spots here are exposed to every kind of Atlantic swell from SW to NW and it’s fairly well subscribed all year round. Remember that respect and the basic rules of priority and good behaviour around the locals goes a long way. Don’t paddle out with more than two other sup riders at the same time, try to find an empty peak – the beach is so wide and long.
Pors Carn: A bay south of la Torche, sheltered and offshore in SSW wind, good for beginners.
La Torche: The big name in the area, super famous and crowded. Very well exposed to swell and sheltered from S wind. Works on every tide.
Tronoen: A beach break that works with small swell and E wind.
Plovan- Penhors: This beach break works on small to medium swell and NNE wind.
What to bring
Fullsuit 5/3mm and boots for winter, steamer 3/2mm for spring and autumn, and a shorty for summer sunny days. Bring your traditional SUP surf board and a cruising / inflatable for paddling along the coastline. There are plenty of schools and surf shops if you need spares.
