LOCO FLY 6’3 TEST REVIEW
Verdict:
The Loco Fly takes the hassle out of learning to SUP foil (or wing foil!). This light, bright board is easy to live with on and off the water. The pivot point is spot on keeping swing weight to a minimum when on the foil. Progression is built in with foot straps so if you want to punt off of liquid kickers or go warp speed with your wing, you can.
Overview:
The Fly is another beautiful board from the UK’s premier rigid SUP creators. As with all Loco boards the finish looks and feels high end. The kicktail and arch bar are in the right place and feel very comfy underfoot, the deck pad is premium deep diamond groove and instils a sense of confidence in in strapless mode.
The Fly features a gorgeous deep ledge handle and being constructed of carbon fibre it feels very light for its size. The board comes with two high quality foot straps, so you now have the option to ride strapped or strapless which provides more progression.
Brand claim:
Our 2023 Loco Fly is the ultimate SUP foil and winging foiling option for newbies and improvers who like a bit of volume under their feet. Two keys sizes at 125L and 145L make for fast progression, simply pair up with our amazing Loco Blade Hydrofoil and you’ll be flying after a couple of sessions. Both sizes available as a package with our amazing user friendly Blade Hydrofoil.
Performance:
At 125 litres, the Fly designed especially for newbies and heavier improvers graduating from inflatable foil boards looking for a performance upgrade.
Running 31” wide, it has ample girth and with Loco’s low aspect foil attached it has rock solid directional stability.
The wide, rounded nose and perfect amount of rocker release quickly. It gets up on foil with minimum fuss whether you’re paddling into a wave, powering up your wing or bearing away with your windsurf sail. For those first attempts the board is easier to control with the foil mounted in the forward position but more seasoned riders will find quicker flight and better carving response with the foil set further back.
Once in the straps, the board hammers through the turns and trying your hand at some basic wing freestyle becomes a reality. The Fly also jumps much more readily than we’d anticipated. In surf mode, the Fly tracks beautifully as you paddle in and once you’re in the surf stance keeping the nose down and controlling the turns feels intuitive. We found the 70cm mast provided with Loco’s two mast Blade hydrofoil allowed for some shallower wave riding; good for those not blessed with perfect deep water reef breaks!
The 6’3” Fly is a plug and play foil board that makes those first steps easy but still has enough performance to keep more demanding heavier riders with performance foils happy.
