LOCO SURF PRO 7’4 TEST REVIEW 2024
Verdict
Loco’s Surf Pro is a captivating board. It is truly awesome in design and shape, and is here to get business done in good waves. It starts revving keenly in ordinary surf and opens up into fast, vertical performance when the swell energy ticks upwards. It has fine manners in between sets, paddles easy and hops over the edge on auto-pilot. Put simply, the Surf Pro excels in both optimal and less-than-ideal wave conditions. It will help you make the best of your everyday surfs and kick your surfing performance up a notch.
Overview
Loco’s Surf Pro might be the most visually stunning boards you’ll ever see. The matte carbon with gold reminded us of the ‘Dark Knight’ Lamborghini Aventador. The tail is an exciting hexagon shape codenamed ‘Angel fish’: it promotes better down the line holding and release out of turns than a regular square tail. The Surf Pro carries a buffed-up contemporary high-performance shape; wide-point about an inch behind centre and a good amount of volume towards the front. This gives the rails a constant curve with the front of the board not much small than the back.
Underneath, a broad single concave flows to a double that starts just in front of the fins. Five Futures boxes permit quad, thruster and 2+1 fin configurations. We rode the Surf Pro with the 2+1 set up.
Brand Claim
“Step into the future of competitive surfing with the Loco Surf Pro Board Range – where innovation, style, and performance converge to redefine the limits of what’s possible in the water. This is not just a board; it’s an invitation to elevate your surfing experience to new heights, carving your legacy wave after wave.
We’ve further refined the ever-popular El Diablo and changed the tail shape. The construction has been completely reworked so that our boards are typically 1-2kg lighter than comparable carbon models from anyone else. The Surf Pro also comes with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty, premium board bag and matching carbon fins. “
Performance
We got to grips with the Surf Pro in clean, fast, hollow semi-closeout beach breaks and some more lined-up slopey A-frames.
The Surf Pro’s subtle, single-into-double barrel concave enhances lift and forward motion, giving you smooth transitions from rail to rail without any stickiness. The wide angel-tail section makes it effortless to roll over onto an edge, even at elevated speeds. This blend of shapes and curves not only boosts rapid acceleration out of a turn but also maintains high top speeds, facilitating effortless, long floaters and fins-free lip assaults.
Positioned slightly behind the middle, the Surf Pro’s widest point, along with its distinct hip, contributes to increased drive and creates a central turning point for sharp, vertical manoeuvres. Despite its high-performance, the Surf Pro will lift your everyday home surfs and keep you amped on sub-par sessions. It hops easily into waves and will eek out whatever energy there is, letting you link up tight turns with bursts of speed.
Overall this is a gorgeous board in both form and function. We take our hat off to Loco for going out to make the best performing, best looking SUP surfboard that they could imagine. We’d say they’ve fulfilled the brief.
