This year, leading inflatable paddleboard brand, Red Paddle Co, will be celebrating their 15-year anniversary. To mark the occasion founder, John Hibbard, has just released an open and honest account on what the Red brand means to him and how far the company has come since its inception in 2008.
The pioneering inflatable SUP brand has been fundamental in the growth of the sport with hundreds of thousands of paddlers taking to the water every year. Red’s drive and dedication to make paddle boarding as accessible as possible has made them an authority in the industry and a leader in innovation, offering the best premium inflatable SUPs on the market. However, this success did not come without its early challenges, as Hibbard explains…
“When we started Red, almost everyone told me it wasn’t possible and that no one would want an inflatable paddle board. I was sure, through my findings from our early R&D, that if we focused on the key details and developed the right tools and materials, we could absolutely build inflatable paddle boards that could perform for everyone and would offer an authentic and reliable paddling experience.
Back then very few people even knew what SUP was. We spent a huge amount of our time initially taking people paddling first to raise awareness of the sport before we let them in on the secret that our boards were inflatable. It was fun but it was a lot of work.”
Fast forward 15 years and the brand have since developed hundreds of products with unique properties to make the experience of owning Red special and different. Their No Compromise approach to the business has generated an avid following of passionate paddlers who are getting out and taking their adventures to the next level. John Hibbard continues…

It’s my absolute passion and I love sharing it with others. SUP has given me a chance to spend more time out on the water with friends and family and knowing I’m doing it on a product that has been designed from the ground up to work well and stand the test of time is particularly important to me and this is what we hear back from our customers and community.”
