REDWOOD 10’3 FUNBOX STARTER TEST REVIEW
REDWOOD 10’3 FUNBOX STARTER TEST REVIEW
Verdict:
Redwood have produced a budget board to step into beginner market with their Funbox 10’3. This board turned out better than expected and represents great value. Although a little basic looking, this board performed well in our comparison tests, a budget board that’s better than we honestly expected for the money.
Overview:
Out of the basic top loading bag the Redwood came with a 2 way switch pump and a simple look to the board with a deck logo and white stringer on the bottom (running to either end of the deckpad). On top there’re cargo bungees up front and a neo’ padded handle in the centre which was comfortable to carry. Underneath, the tail has two side fins and an older slot in style centre fin. The board has a fairly abrupt rocker in the front and lightweight rails.
Brand Claim:
The Funbox 10’3 Starter is the perfect Air SUP for flat water paddling and for learning to surf. Originally conceived for SUP and surf clubs, this super stable, solid and fun iSUP is now one of our best sellers. Brand new deco for 2017, this is the most versatile AirSUP here at Redwoodpaddle. Ultra solid construction, it’s the ideal iSUP for all the family. Flat water paddling, learning to surf, river descents, fishing…everything is possible with the 10’3 Starter AirSUP.
Performance:
The Redwood Funbox exceeded our expectations on the water. Although this direct to market board had shaved off specs and refinements, it paddled comfortably turned absolutely fine. The finish and build could be better but at this very reasonable price it’s all good. The Funbox was at the lower end of our glide test, but not the bottom, and it was mid range in our stiffness test. On the water we found it a touch bendy but no more than some of the other boards and of course this could be better with more air in it too. The rocker line was negative but with a more abrupt kick in the nose, this all worked well on the water. At the end of the day this board is nearly half the price of some of the more high end boards by saving off some features and cutting out a link in the chain to consumer. As a budget board it works well, better for a lighter rider maybe; if you’re not fussed about intricate graphics but want good value for money the Redwood fits the bill nicely.
