BRAZIL: SUP MICRO GUIDE

Where: Brazil has a massive coastline offering up some absolutely amazing waves.  Once out of populated areas you can usually find a wave to suit every level of paddling.

What: Mostly mellow beach breaks set to a stunning paradise backdrop. However, there are some offshore reefs at spots, that offer a bit more punch, that are absolutely ideal for a sup due to the long paddles involved. If one of these slabs does turn on then it will more than likely be crowded.

When: Winter is usually the best time for waves as it is rarely flat, although this can be just local wind swell caused by the ever present trade winds. However be prepared to be on it as after a storm front passes there is usually a glass off period where conditions become perfect and this can happen several times a day.

How: Fly direct into Rio, Sao Paulo or Recife from most European and US cities.  The surf season is the off season for tourists.

Other: Get out of the cities for a totally laid back paddling experience but be vigilante of sharky areas and dodgy looking characters.  And don’t forget to check out the local Samba and Forro dancing.
