SUP ARMADA 2015 IS THIS SATURDAY!

Well we are nearly there, the SUP Armada 2015 kicks off this Saturday and it looks like we are in for a gorgeous and sunny day on the water. Check out the BBC forecast for Saturday below! Bring your suncream! 🙂

And also please remember there are no cash machines on site so please bring cash for the day for the cafe, bar and so on! Gates will open at 10 am and you can still Sign Up here. Tickets are £10/£5 for the whole day and include all activities, including the GUINNESS World Record attempt in the afternoon. Please invite all your SUP friends and lets make this happen!

Numbers are looking good but its looking like it going to be very close for the World Record where we need 255 paddlers to break the record… we could really do with a few more people to make sure we get over the line! Please do invite anyone you can to come down, even if they register on the day, or in the afternoon before the Record Attempt at 2pm! Remember, they don’t even need to know how to SUP – they can take a taster session in the morning, and enter the Record in the afternoon! Board hire is just £5 and it all goes to charity.

Check out all the SUP Activities on the day

The poster below lists everything happening on the day. For some activities like SUP Polo, SUP Fun Sprints, SUP Team Challenge and the Intermediate Clinics, it would help us if you could register before. Others like the SUP Super Lap, Beginner Taster Sessions and SUP Yoga you can just rock up on the day and have a go. Luckily the Queen Mother Reservoir is a massive space so we should have no problem fitting everything in. But please note, the majority of activities are running between 10am and 2pm – as after then we will be focusing on the GUINNESS World Record and the endurance SUP event for charity – 1, 4 , 7 and 10 mile courses! The graphic below should give you a pretty good idea how the event will work and where everything is taking place on the day. When you arrive, just go to the Registration Desk at the entrance of the event. If you have pre-registered everything will be ready for you. If you end up registering on the day, we will process you as fast as we can! But please register in advance if you can.  Please note: Datchet Water Sailing Club have a no dogs policy – sorry to you dog lovers, this is one of their rules and we have to abide by this to run an event at the reservoir.

Could you help volunteer on the day?

We are still looking for a few more volunteers – so if you are interested in getting involved on the day as a volunteer, we would REALLY love your help! There are loads of roles and it should be a really fun day to be part of. You get free entry to the World Record attempt and we can cover up to £20 expenses per person, and your support would be very much appreciated! If you have SUP experience or qualifications, safety RIB experience, press and social media experience or are keen to help on land with the SUP Village, cafe, bar etc – please just let us know it would be a great help having you involved. Just drop Julia a line at julia@kitesurfingarmada.com for more details. Thank you.

Untitled 3-1 (dragged)Changes to the Charity SUP Course!

To avoid double counting we have been advised by GUINNESS to make sure the courses are completely separate between the Record attempt, and the charity lap – so please see the new course below. This mean you will all do the one mile lap for the Record – then you can either finish then, or go onto the charity / endurance lap which is a 3 mile loop. So your total distance will be 4 miles (with 1 lap) 7 miles (with 2 laps) or 10 miles (with 3 laps!) If you are interested in the detail of how to break the record – you can read the GUINNESS guidelines here!

Charity Update

We know fundraising is tough but we are trying to support some fantastic charities through the SUP Armada, each helping disadvantaged young people through sailing (The Andrew Simpson Foundation), SUP (The Big Stand) and snowsports (youth charity Snow-Camp). Please do send your fundraising page around if you can, and every penny helps and will make a difference. Thank you.

So to learn more about Snow-Camp’s work with young people you can watch a short film about the charity here.
To find out more about the Big Stand please check out their website
And to read more about the Andrew Simpson Foundation please see their website.
