“There is a well-known nature anger of the Mediterranean. For several days, the sea begins to smoke at the first light off day. Huge swell trains rush to Corsica and Sardinia. The air is dry and cold. The clear sky. Blame this very violent corridor wind, which blows from north-west to north. The mistral. This natural phenomenon has overthrown generations of sailors. As if to emphasise its unique and majestic character, the ancient Occitans called it “maestral”.
Jérémy and Ludovic Teulade, professional stand up paddle athletes and OXBOW ambassadors, have set themselves the challenge of rowing in these extreme conditions. The route was all traced: follow the flow from the coast, from La Ciotat, to reach the north of Corsica. More than 200km in a storm. An odyssey performed in relay between two brothers. With gusts at 52 knots and waves of 4-5m, Ludovic and Jérémy encountered strong conditions. The entire crew had to deal with the unexpected. The film MAESTRAL traces this exceptional adventure. The quest for this dream a little crazy. That of playing with the elements.”
